Her poignant declaration, released via The New Yorker in March of 2026, chronicled her experience from the point of diagnosis to her subsequent healing.

What Type of Cancer Does Amanda Peet Have?
As mentioned previously, Amanda was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer, which necessitated a “lumpectomy and radiation, rather than a double mastectomy or chemotherapy,” the actress stated in her March 2026 article.
“The Friday preceding Labor Day [in 2025], I attended what I thought would be a standard examination,” Amanda elucidated, referring to her regular checkups every six months. “Dr. K. … indicated that she was not pleased with how something appeared on the ultrasound and desired to conduct a biopsy. Following the procedure, she communicated that she would personally transport the sample to Cedars-Sinai and deliver it to Pathology. It was at that instant that I became aware.”
The tumor discovered by her doctor in her breast was fortunately “small,” yet Amanda was still required to undergo an MRI to “ascertain the scope of the ailment.”
The physician specified to her that she was “hormone-receptor-positive and HER2-negative,” which arises when malignant cells within the breast lack elevated quantities of the protein known as human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2), a factor that could potentially accelerate cancer progression, as noted by Mayo Clinic.
“One might think I had just consumed Ecstasy,” Amanda jested. “I experienced greater joy than I had prior to the diagnosis, when I was simply an ordinary individual without cancer. However, after approximately ten minutes, it dawned on me that I still required the MRI, and I reverted to a state of baseline dread.”
Is Amanda Peet Cancer-Free Now?
Indeed, Amanda conveyed in her piece that she received her “initial clear scan” in mid-January of 2026.
Physicians identified a separate growth within the same breast, but fortunately, it proved to be non-cancerous. Amanda depicted the uncomfortable procedure, crucial for determining whether a mass is malignant or benign.
The initial injection, intended for pain relief, “was so intensely agonizing that enduring it with clenched fists could not have exacerbated it,” the 2012 actress remembered. “Subsequently, came an injection of dye, designed to highlight the suspicious mass, and ultimately [the tech] Tom progressively compressed my breast — while it remained suspended in mid-air — using a barbaric waffle iron, whose latticed squares were numbered to pinpoint the target site for the needle.”
