Why the right pair of jeans no longer exists and what to wear instead in 2026

Jeans are a popular staple, a constant, a thing that is always understood. But look at what is happening now. You just have to go into a store and a barrage of terms pours down on you: “buggy”, “slouchy”, “carrot”, “mom”, “skinny”, “bootcut”… Your head is spinning.

Denim has become the main canvas for fashion experiments. In order not to get lost in the variety, I studied the main trends and laid out everything on the shelves. For women with experience, this means freedom of choice.

The main news: there is no longer one “right” style. A “decent” woman can wear any suitable model. Fashion has become incredibly democratic.

Wide

They remain in the macro trend, no matter how much some people want to throw them into the dustbin of history. 90s-style models with high waists and loose trousers are quite comfortable and versatile. Women of non-model parameters should pay attention to proportions and take into account height. To avoid turning into a shapeless cloud, combine them with a more compact top: a tight turtleneck, a shirt tucked into jeans, or a cropped jacket.

Timeless classic: straight jeans

Straight jeans with a comfortable high or mid rise are the perfect option for those who are not ready to experiment with baggy or skinny models. Their clean, laconic silhouette suits most body types and goes with all the current footwear of the season: boots, chelsea boots, ankle boots, high boots and sneakers. Add a strict shirt and suede jacket to create a complete look.

Don't be afraid: new skinnies

Yes, they're back. But not in the form of the skinny jeggings of the 2010s that clung to every crease. Modern skinnies are actually very tight straight jeans made of thick denim that taper neatly to the ankle, but don't dig into it. It's a more sophisticated and austere version that looks great with voluminous sweaters and high boots.

Interesting shapes: oval and “barrel”

For those who are tired of straight lines, more figure-hugging silhouettes have appeared. Oval-shaped jeans with a curved leg line. This way you will instantly make your look less formulaic. They look best with heels and a laconic top that does not clash with the complex cut of the pants.

New palette – brown and deep indigo

Blue denim is giving way to more complex shades.

Chocolate brown. This is the main color of the season, and it looks incredibly chic with denim. Try replacing your usual office pants with them. They go perfectly with beige, cream and camel shades, creating “soft” looks. And a total look in chocolate tones looks especially impressive.

Rich indigo: dark blue, almost black denim without scuffs will be another way to make jeans more status. Such models look strict and collected, easily fit even into the office wardrobe and serve as the perfect backdrop for bright sweaters or silk blouses.

Wild West spirit — flared jeans

Cowboy style is back, but in a more delicate interpretation. It's not about fringe and hats, but about details. These can be denim shirts with characteristic buttons, straight-cut jackets or bootcut jeans (slightly flared at the bottom to fit perfectly with boots). This trend brings back comfort and a touch of brutality that suits self-confident women so well.

Noble antiquity – vintage scuffs

Along with clean dark shades, jeans that look like you've been wearing them for years are also in fashion. Light, natural scuffs and the effect of faded fabric give the image a relaxed and casual look. Such jeans do not say anything about sloppy, but about the fact that the thing has a history. Ideal for creating images in the style of “quiet luxury” – just combine them with quality shoes and knitwear.

Today, fashion no longer dictates what jeans to wear, but we ourselves choose from dozens of options what suits our figure, style, and lifestyle.
