Victoria Beckham brings back a hair color trend from the 2010s

For her 52nd birthday, Victoria Beckham bleached her hair, effectively bringing back the balayage trend of the 2010s.

During her Spice Girls days, Victoria Beckham was known for her perfect Posh bob: neatly trimmed and always dark. Later, after several experiments with hairstyles, the designer made long wavy hair her signature look. It's this look that she's been wearing for the past few years, but for her birthday, she decided to refresh it with a subtle update – a soft light balayage.

Unlike clearly visible highlights, the balayage technique creates a natural, sun-kissed effect. “Balayage always stays softer and darker at the roots and gradually lightens towards the ends. It essentially mimics the natural lightening of hair by the sun,” explains celebrity stylist George Papanikolas in an interview with British Vogue.

This isn't the first time Beckham has experimented with lighter shades. In 2003, she added blonde highlights to her chestnut hair. And a few years later, she opted for a short platinum blonde pixie cut. This look is still remembered by her fans.

What you should know before balayage

If you want to replicate Victoria Beckham's blonde balayage, you should head to a salon. Experts say it's almost impossible to recreate this result at home. “Blonde hair is hard work, and balayage is a true art that requires training and a keen eye,” Papanikolas says.

Trying it yourself can lead to uneven color or even damage to your hair. However, professionally done balayage is relatively low-maintenance and can stay in good condition for up to six months—in fact, it can last the entire season, right up until fall.
