Created by Valentina Li, this capsule collection is inspired by denim, from which she borrows not only her palette but also her personality. The Chanel Denim Makeup Collection is a beauty interpretation of teenage nostalgia and the cultural code of the 1990s.
The symbolic starting point for the collection was the novel by American writer Anne Breshears, “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.” The story about four girls and a “magical” pair of jeans that fits each of them has become a kind of manifesto for a generation. Along with the book, a conditional list of rules appears. First of all, stylistic (“never tuck a T-shirt into them”) – a principle that was later reinterpreted by Generation Z), as well as about the body and friendship (“never say the word “fat” next to them”).

In the 1990s, denim was not just a material, but a marker of identity. Silhouettes and sizes became objects of comparison, but the denim itself remained a constant. Eternal, yet at the same time changeable, capable of telling stories about different stages of growing up.

Capsule created by Valentina Li
The creative impulse of the collection continues the exploration of denim as a cultural phenomenon. According to Lee, the limited edition is intended to be a message to those who wear denim consciously: to girls who have their own position and the courage to express it.

She pays special attention to the history of the fabric in the context of the House. Until the 1950s and 1960s, denim was considered a predominantly masculine material, but over time it evolved to the status of a fashionable and even avant-garde material.

Baby Blue: a new interpretation of radiance
The key highlights of the collection are a powder highlighter in a sky-blue shade and a lipstick in a similar shade called Baby Blue. The highlighter appears blue in the case, but after application it becomes transparent and reflects pink highlights. The formula does not leave a white mark on the skin, suits different tones and can even be used on the eyelids, especially in combination with intense smoky looks. Baby Blue lipstick is also multifunctional: it can be applied as a top in the center of the lips to cool down the shade and add a natural glow.

Blue + Brown: The Main Combination of the 1990s
The 1990s were the starting point for the collection's strongest color block – blue and brown. Two eyeshadow palettes – Les 4 Ombres in Denim Dream and Coco Jean – focus on classic denim shades: from light to deep blue. The lipsticks, on the other hand, are presented in a brown range: from the nude Washed Beige to more saturated, “earthy” tones like Raw Brown. The look, tested and approved by actress Lily-Rose Depp (ambassador of the House and face of the Chanel Denim Makeup Collection), is distinguished by depth and character.

“It's hard to imagine anything more chic,” notes Valentina Li, emphasizing that this blue-brown harmony is a modern reinterpretation of the 1990s aesthetic.
