No more sugaring and expensive masks: my honest experience of giving up beauty services

Agree, we can do a lot ourselves, and sometimes even better than in beauty salons, informs Ukr.Media.

I often come across videos where girls in a salon were given poor-quality service, and they paid a lot of money for it. The problem is that some salons and masters work for quantity, not for retaining customers.

For some reason, beauty experts stubbornly think that they have caught us on the hook for their procedures, and we will never get away from them. But, judging by the last year, women have begun to choose more carefully what to spend money on in beauty salons. We have not abandoned them en masse, the crisis and blackouts are taking their toll – the prices for the procedure have become sky-high, and sometimes there is no time. We have simply begun to prioritize.

I noticed that before the New Year, some craftsmen weren't as excited as before. In previous years, we would sign up for December almost in October, but now craftsmen I know say that they were out of work for half the month.

Many people refuse manicures in favor of bare nails. The reason is not only that it has suddenly become fashionable. One of the reasons is the cost, because for a good manicure you need to pay at least 800 hryvnias once every three weeks. In addition, a lot of time is spent: 1.5-2 hours for the manicure itself and the trip, because it is not always possible to find a good master near your home.

Many people have also started dyeing their hair at home, if they just need to refresh their roots or dye their hair one color.

Eyebrow manipulations

I stubbornly believe it's a waste of money, you can pluck your eyebrows yourself. If you don't have the right shape, then yes, you can first go to a master, and then just maintain everything yourself.

You can also dye your hair at home, henna and dye are freely available, and it's easy to do, there are many detailed videos on the Internet.

Of course, you can't do lamination at home – a few wrong moves – and you can burn the hairs. But I do it only before vacation – so that my eyebrows are always well-groomed and I don't have to do anything extra with them. Therefore, you can do it once or twice a year.

Hair coloring and care

My maximum is to go and update my haircut twice a year. That's it! I went for a simple dyeing in one tone and realized that there was no difference in the condition of my hair after the procedure at all, only my wallet was emptied by a considerable amount. Of course, if it comes to lightening, blonding or complex techniques like Airtouch, balayage, shatush or getting out of black, then you can't do it without a colorist. A professional colorist knows the chemistry of the processes, the percentages of oxides, and home experiments with blonding most often end in “burned” hair that has to be cut off. But for my simple tasks, a salon is not needed.

I don't like to dye my own hair, so I thought it would be easier to dye it in a salon. It turned out that it is easier, of course, but also much more expensive. Moreover, now all professional dyes are available for free sale, and if you just need to refresh your roots or dye your hair tone-on-tone with dark dye, you can do it at home with minimal damage to your hair.

Regarding salon care, opinions are mixed: some people like it, but I don't use it for myself. I have good home care, I don't need salon procedures. And the result is for one day, then everything is washed off, just like your money.

Sugaring and waxing

I don't understand why I have to make fun of myself like this and pay money for it. And in a few weeks my hair is back in place.

The irritation at the execution sites was an unpleasant bonus, and the ingrown hairs were an addition.

I replaced all of this with a laser and now I walk around satisfied. I've almost finished the course, then only maintenance procedures. Yes, it's expensive, but girls with black and hard hair will understand what a pleasure it is to walk without it.

Beautician

I went to a good beautician who helped me choose home care. Now I have enough of it, and I didn't like all these massages and masks, the effect of them lasts from a few days to a week. I consider it an unjustified waste of money. If in a few years I need heavy artillery, then maybe I will go to a beautician, but that's not for sure.

Pedicure

I don't really like doing my own pedicures, but the cost of them brings me back to reality. You can easily rub your heels in the bath, trim and file your nails yourself. You can also do a light pedicure and paint your nails yourself, it doesn't take that much time.

Another thing is, if you need a therapeutic pedicure from a podiatrist, you certainly can't do it yourself.

Now, when I do a procedure myself, I just save the money that I could spend on a salon. I think that in a year I will accumulate a considerable amount there, I will be able to give myself a good gift for next New Year.

What salon procedures have you decided to give up and for what reasons?
