I see more and more often that my friends choose regular nail polish, but I myself have long since returned to it. There is only one drawback to such coatings: they are unstable and tend to peel off at the first difficulties.
But there are some tricks and tips that will help you avoid this. Let's find out how to extend the life of a manicure with a regular top coat.
Why regular nail polish replaced gel polish
Once upon a time, gel polish seemed like the perfect solution. It lasts quite a long time, and the next visit to the master could be planned no earlier than in half a month.
But during the application and removal of gel polish, the nail plate becomes thinner, requiring breaks between applications and often treatment. And exposure to ultraviolet light during drying can lead to the appearance of pigment spots on the hands.
Therefore, more and more often women choose a manicure without a coating or with regular polish, which dries quickly without a special lamp and is removed in a few seconds.
Minus one — you don't look like that for half a month. Sometimes cracks and chips appear the very next day. But this can be avoided. Below I share secrets that help keep your manicure fresh for as long as possible.
Don't soak your nails in baths before painting.
Nails, like a sponge, absorb moisture, which causes the surface of the nail plate to expand.
After painting, the nail will dry out and narrow, although you won't notice it visually. But you will see the result: the nail polish will not hold well and will chip off quickly.
Preparing the nail plate
Manicure begins with proper preparation. Remove the remains of old nail polish and traces of care – cream or cuticle oil. Use a special degreaser or alcohol to clean the nails.
Choosing the right shape and length
Yes, the shape and length also play a role. The shorter the plate, the less it will bend. Decorative varnish has an inelastic texture, so microcracks may appear on its surface. This is especially true for thin, peeling nails.
Choose a shape with rounded ends. A square edge can catch on clothing or a handbag, leading to chipping.
Let's look at the shape of the brush
When choosing nail polish, we are used to looking at the color and sometimes the composition of the product. And we pay much less attention to the brush.
And in vain. Its shape determines how evenly the varnish will lie. Choose a flat brush with a rounded edge. It will help to apply the viscous texture as evenly and neatly as possible.
Coating
Do not shake the bottle of varnish too vigorously: it creates micro-bubbles of air, which can cause the coating to lie unevenly. It is enough to roll the bottle in your palms several times without sudden movements. Make sure that the base is completely dry, and start applying two layers of colored coating. The end of the nail should also be painted (there should be a minimum amount of varnish on the brush), this will protect the manicure from chipping.
Do not use quick-drying varnishes.
Nail polishes that dry “in 60 seconds” also peel off quickly. No surprise there: products that dry quickly simply contain more solvent and therefore peel off instantly.
We can't do without a base and a top
The base helps to even out the surface of the nail, and the top coat helps to seal the result. Therefore, we should not neglect both products.
First, we apply a leveling base, on which the pigment will adhere better. And on top, we cover with a top coat: it will create a protective layer.
We use express drying
Another little life hack: a special spray speeds up the drying of the polish and extends the life of the manicure. With it, the coating acquires a glossy shine, and the risk of smudging it immediately after application is reduced to zero.
We are planning a manicure cleaning.
Household chores shorten the life of a manicure, so it's better not to do them immediately after applying polish.
Unfortunately, we can't cancel the daily routine of cooking and washing dishes (such actions should be done with protective gloves, then the varnish will last longer). But applying a coating after the scheduled cleaning is a must.
Bonus: Which nail polish will survive a long trip?
If you're planning a vacation or a long trip without the opportunity to refresh your manicure, choose a polish with glitter or a holographic effect. This coating will “cling” better to the nail surface and survive long-term wear without cracking.
And if a small chip does form, it will remain invisible on the translucent shiny surface.
