Spring/Summer 2026 didn't completely change the game, but it did throw up some interesting visual ideas. I'm flipping through the latest runway photos and I see a mix of updated patterns that should at least somehow break up the fatigue of the basic wardrobe.
Floral print
Spring floristry. It sounds like the most banal thing in the world, but now flowers are presented differently. It's as if designers have massively reviewed mom's photo albums from the 80s and decided that we lack that stylistic audacity. Either microscopic, almost linen-like buds or gigantic vintage XXL inflorescences have appeared on the catwalks.
Cell
Fashion houses have remembered Tattersall tartan. In human terms, it is a delicate pattern of thin lines intersecting on a light background. Historically, somewhere in England, it was used to make light shirts and waistcoats for gentlemen, and now it has been adapted in soft, almost blurred pastel shades. It looks quite unobtrusive and does not give the impression that a person spent too long and tediously choosing things in front of a mirror.
Strip
The usual horizontal line, which used to make us look like sailors on vacation, has faded into the background. Spring-Summer 2026 dictates vertical and diagonal – all these rhythmic stripes and thin pinstripes. And you know, the industry adds them everywhere. From bohemian flowing fabrics and baggy silhouettes to some artistic combinations of bright colors. From the side, it looks like a kind of deliberate negligence, which perfectly masks the fact that you just overslept and grabbed the first shirt off the hanger.
Animalistics
This wild menagerie refuses to die. It seems to have moved a little from its pedestal to make room for others, but overall it hasn't disappeared. Leopard, zebra, snake, giraffe, and even Bambi the fawn – brands are weaving the entire zoo into their collections indiscriminately. It seems that animal print will outlive us all.
Polka dots
Flirty peas are returning to street style, but now they are approaching it somewhat more freely. Gone is the mothballed regularity and neatness. Now it can be small, huge, scattered randomly or irregularly. The usual cheerful geometry, which has been transformed to suit modern realities and looks quite organic both for coffee with a friend in the neighborhood, and for those days when you are just sitting with a laptop in the kitchen and trying not to go crazy from the amount of work.
But I think the main trend this spring is to wear something that makes you feel normal and happy. And if that means covering yourself in leopard print from head to toe or wearing your mom's floral blouse, why not?
