In the wake of the acquisition of Novachem, one year ago, and its integration into the Evonik’s Care Solutions business, the manufacturer of speciality chemicals has added two new sustainable, natural products to its portfolio of beauty and personal care actives: CapilAcid for haircare and Oleobiota for skincare applications.
Like other suppliers of cosmetic ingredients, Evonik is stepping up its efforts to develop new active ingredients of natural origin. Last year, in order to strengthen its portfolio of scientifically substantiated botanical and natural active ingredients for skin and hair applications, Evonik acquired Novachem, an Argentina-based company specialising in the development of personal care solutions from botanical and microorganisms.
The acquisition is now leading to two launches: CapilAcid, an active ingredient derived from the Maqui fruit which is a comprehensive protector and powerful antioxidant for the hair; and Oleobiota, an active ingredient sourced sustainably from the Misiones rainforest for sebum-normalizing skin care.
Protecting hair from root to tip
Derived from the Maqui fruit, which grows exclusively in Andean Patagonia, CapilAcid serves as a comprehensive protector from the root to the tip of the hair and is a powerful antioxidant.
According to Evonik, the new active ingredient excels in acidic formulations, safeguarding hair against exposome-induced stress and promoting overall hair health.
Oil regulation and mattifying effect
For its part, Oleobiota is an active ingredient sourced from the Misiones rainforest. It is intended to be used for regulating oiliness and mattifying combination and oily skin, while minimizing the appearance of pores.
Extracted from sustainably cultivated Ñangapirí leaves, Oleobiota also supports the health of the Misiones rainforest. It was developed in accordance with the Nagoya Protocol that builds on and supports the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
“Our latest product launches are a testament to our collaborative spirit. Novachem has enabled us to elevate our offerings, and deliver even more unique sustainable solutions to our customers,” said Ute Schick, head of the Care Solutions business line at Evonik.
