Emma Stone: Growing out your hair isn't as difficult as it seems

Emma Stone always manages to turn heads on the Golden Globes red carpet. Last year, the actress used the ceremony as a platform to debut the ultra-short haircut she needed for her role as CEO Michelle Fuller in Bougonniere. And at the 2026 Golden Globes, Stone is giving a masterclass on how to grow her hair out without stress — along with her longtime stylist Mara Rozzak.

“The process of growing it out was unexpectedly fun,” Stone admits. According to her, the hardest part was the first three months: her hair was really short and she wore a hat almost all the time. “It was a little boring, wearing a bun all the time. But once it got to a pixie length, everything changed. From then on, it was a real pleasure: you get to experiment with different styles.”

For the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, Stone and Rozzak chose the most modern, laconic look that harmonized with a custom Louis Vuitton dress. “We're in the era of the bob now,” explains the stylist. The chin-length hair was prepared with a conditioner and then given a soft shape with a round brush. If last year the accent was a spectacular pixie haircut, this year it's a restrained, clean modern hairstyle.

Stone herself admits that she has no universal advice for those who grow their hair, except for one: do not resist the process. “Getting angry about the length or trying to fight it is a waste of time. You can always find something interesting to do with it.” She also emphasizes the importance of trusting the master: the actress has worked with stylist Mara Rozzak for almost 20 years and has experienced dozens of image changes with her. “I completely trusted her in the process of growing it out. We have gone through so many lengths and colors, and Mara is an incredibly stable and important person in my life.”

After Stone appeared with a pixie, the popularity of ultra-short haircuts in the United States has noticeably increased. According to Rozak, more and more clients come to the salon with a desire to repeat the image of the actress. “It's inspiring to see a woman who is so fearless with her hair. It's especially important that women with different life experiences dare to go for a pixie – especially after difficult periods, such as postpartum hair loss or chemotherapy. This can be a great support.”

Attentive fans also noticed a slight change in Stone's hair color. The shade was worked on by colorist Tracy Cunningham, who chose a soft auburn — warmer and deeper than the previous copper red. The color became slightly darker, deeper at the ends, which added dynamism to the hairstyle.

According to Mara Rozzak, no matter where you start your journey (shaved head, pixie or bob), the key to growing your hair out comfortably is regular micro-trimming and accepting that sometimes a baseball cap is the best accessory. “The process of growing your hair out shouldn't scare you away from the haircut you want,” she concludes. Emma Stone herself jokes that anyone considering a radical change should shave their head at least once. “My goal is to grow my hair down to my knees by next year,” the actress says. It seems that this journey for her is not a test at all, but part of the game.
