“The bob continues to evolve, not disappear,” says stylist and founder of Roz Mara Rozzak. The latest version of the popular haircut is called the bubble bob.
Bubble Bob: what does this haircut look like?
“A bubble bob is essentially a classic bob with a straight cut that keeps the hair weight down. It also has very soft layering to soften the edges,” adds the Los Angeles-based stylist. It's important to note that the bob's continued popularity is partly due to her work: Mara Rozzak was responsible for Emma Stone's transition from a shaved head to a modern wavy bob.

The cut isn't limited to the West Coast: Los Angeles resident Selena Gomez recently joined the bubble bob fan base, and Manhattan-based stylist Carlene Gristi says clients at her Beauty Supply salon are also requesting the cut. “A bubble bob allows you to create volume and shape without losing thickness through excessive layering. The weight of the cut is in the length of the hair,” she explains.

How a bubble bob makes hair look thicker
This shape makes the cut a real “magic wand,” transforming thin or weak hair into a fuller, thicker-looking one. Sources of inspiration for the cut include Phoebe Dynevor, Beyoncé, Laura Harrier, and Gracie Abrams. Gristy also adds a few vintage references to the list: Vidal Sassoon's advertising campaigns and the iconic designs of British fashion designer Mary Quant.

Regarding the bob's enduring popularity, Mara Rozzak explains it this way: “The bob can have many variations. It responds to a general desire for haircuts that look thoughtful and purposeful. Clients are choosing shapes that make a statement without the need for complicated styling.”
