To defend its intellectual property, the German beauty applicator specialist has adopted the anti-counterfeiting system introduced by the Italian trade fair.
During the Cosmopack 2025 exhibition in Bologna, Geka has discovered several copies of its GentleLips applicator – one of its best-selling flocked applicators, easily recognisable with its rounded base followed by a curved waist in the middle and a flattened rounded tip (shown below). The GentleLips applicator is protected by the European Registered Design EU0007496840002S.
At the trade show, Korea’s Dong Lim Enterprise Ltd and China’s Guangdong Huasheng Plastic Co., Ltd, referred to as the ’alleged infringers,’ showcased knockoffs of its patented applicator and pitched them for sale in the European Union, Geka claimed in a statement.
“The copies and the offers for sale were reported to the official anti-counterfeiting service of the Cosmopack 2025 exhibition, represented by the Italian IP firm Modiano & Partners in cooperation with the Italian law firm Corona Law,” Geka added.
Law firm representatives witnessed firsthand the ’alleged infringers’ in action and, as a precaution, advised them to remove the disputed products from display. According to Geka, both companies voluntarily followed the recommendation. The products were not displayed again in the following days and no objection from the companies involved was brought to Geka’s attention.
As a leading manufacturer of beauty application solutions, Geka regularly develops innovative products and protects them through available legal means. As such it has more than about 700 registered designs and 300 patents and pending applications. The company said it has enforced its rights in dozens of prior cases already.
“Copies of Geka products by other manufacturers are not subject to Geka’s strict quality controls and are therefore not covered by its warranty. In the interests of its customers, Geka will continue to take legal steps against all such copies,” the company concluded.
