The Swiss manufacturer of natural cosmetic active ingredients is launching AmelioSense, an ingredient dedicated to reducing general skin inflammation that may lead to redness and irritated skin.
Mibelle Biochemistry’s newest ingredient AmelioSense [1] combines an extract of shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) with a powerful liposomal antioxidant complex including carnosine, tocopherol, and silymarin.
Shepherd’s Purse is a versatile medicinal herb, which has a long history in natural medicine, particularly for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to promote wound healing.
Carnosine fights skin glycation and oxidative stress, tocopherol protects against oxidative damage, and silymarin provides anti-inflammatory properties
The formulation is spray-granulated onto maltodextrin to enhance skin penetration.
The innovation, which was unveiled at the in-cosmetics Global trade fair in Amsterdam, aims to alleviate skin irritation and redness through a comprehensive approach that targets pyroptosis (a programmed, highly inflammatory cell death) and general skin inflammation.
“Recent research has unveiled a critical link, which shows that pyroptosis can exacerbate rosacea. The pro-inflammatory mediators that are released during pyroptosis promote the infiltration, activation, and differentiation of immune cells, which heightens the immune and inflammatory response and worsens rosacea symptoms. Therefore, targeting pyroptosis is essential for optimizing care of rosacea and inflammation,” explains Mibelle Biochemistry.
In vitro and in vivo tests
In vitro studies have shown that AmelioSense inhibits active caspase-1, the key enzye in pyroptosis, thanks to the action of the shepherd’s purse natural extract. Reducing the activity of caspase-1 “helps to calm the inflammatory response and soothe irritated and inflamed skin prone to flushing and redness,” highlights Mibelle.
The antioxidant complex of AmelioSense also significantly reduces the gene expression of diverse inflammatory markers known to be also present in rosacea.
Furthermore, and in vivo studies have shown that AmelioSense visibly reduces the appearance of blood vessels and redness in the cheek area.
AmelioSense thus offers relief and improved skin appearance for those affected by rosacea and other inflammatory skin issues.
Mibelle’s new active ingredient is a water-soluble powder, free from preservatives and alcohol.
