While nail trends with playful patterns and intricate nail art are a great way to express your individual style, minimalism can make an equally powerful impression. Manicurist Mateja Novakovic is known for her simple and sophisticated approach. She shares five understated manicure options that she thinks will be especially popular this year.
Short nails
The “clean” manicure has been going viral on social media for a long time, appearing on the catwalks of Chanel, Stella McCartney, and Toteme — and it's not going to disappear anytime soon. “I think 2026 will be the era of short nails. A short and discreet manicure has a special chic. The secret is in care: well-moisturized skin of the hands and healthy nails. After a manicure, you should use nourishing oils and moisturizers, and the difference will be noticeable immediately,” says Novakovic.

Milk nails
Pantone's color of the year is Cloud Dancer, a special shade of white that Novakovic predicts will hit salons in 2026. Pantone chose Cloud Dancer for its “calming presence, thought-provoking power, and versatility across design disciplines.” The shade works with nails of all lengths and shapes.

Cappuccino nails
“Dark shades of brown have been dominating fashion and beauty for some time now. In 2026, the brown palette will become lighter, with cooler tones such as dark beige and cappuccino appearing,” Novakovic notes.

Nails with miniature accessories
If large nail decorations seem too obvious, consider subtle embellishments. Novakovic uses small gold and silver dots, tiny stones, stickers, and even 3D gel elements. Perfect for those who want a slightly more decorative but still understated look.

Bright red nails
Modern red manicure is an ultra-glossy finish. A timeless classic that could be seen on the catwalks of Etro, Lanvin, Willy Chavarria and which does not lose its relevance.
