Even owners of naturally lush and thick eyelashes may find that they become thinner and require more thorough coloring or, in the worst case, getting used to false eyelashes.
Poor nutrition and constant stress are the main enemies. The health of eyelashes, like hair, depends very much on the internal state of the body (hormones, thyroid, iron and vitamin deficiencies). But today we will talk about the most common mistakes in our habits, which can also make eyelashes weaker every day.
You don't wash off your makeup before bed.
After a hard day, the last thing your hands want to do is remove your makeup from your face. Sometimes you don’t have the time or energy to do it, and you, as a rare exception, go to bed with your makeup still on. Well, your eyelashes are crying bitterly because sleeping with mascara on doesn’t do you any good.
It is important to consider that mascara makes eyelashes harder, and therefore more vulnerable to external influences. If you go to bed with eye makeup on, your eyelashes are subjected to harsh friction against the pillow. At the same time, the likelihood of their damage increases several times.
The main rule when removing mascara from eyelashes: the substance should soften before you start removing it. That's why it's important to stock up on a special eye makeup remover – preferably oil-based. But most importantly, keep pressing and rubbing your eyelashes to a minimum to maintain their strength and density.
You're removing your false eyelashes incorrectly.
In the evening, you can't wait to get rid of your makeup and feel lightness on your face. However, when it comes to removing false eyelashes, you definitely shouldn't rush. If you get rid of them with sharp, careless movements, you will have to pay a high price and lose a considerable number of eyelashes at once.
You apply waterproof mascara every day.
Mascara that won't leave you in the face of an unexpected storm is probably the most beloved product in a woman's makeup bag. However, resorting to it unnecessarily regularly when it's dry and sunny outside and there's no sign of rain is definitely not the best idea.
As a rule, a good waterproof mascara has an aggressive chemical composition, and this is its main danger. When applied, such a substance creates additional stress for the eyelashes, and when trying to quickly but illiterately remove it, it leads to the loss of precious eyelashes. With frequent, vigorous removal of waterproof mascara, there is a risk of damaging the lash line and significantly weakening them. In this regard, cosmetologists actively advise giving preference to mascara with flexible polymers in the composition – you can use ordinary warm water to remove them.
You curl your eyelashes after applying mascara.
The same rule applies here: after applying mascara, avoid any mechanical manipulation of the eyelashes – the hardened mascara substance makes them more brittle. To give them the desired bend, we recommend taking care of this before applying mascara, but in no case after.
Moreover, try to curl your eyelashes without going too close to their base line. This can damage the eyelash cuticle and also cause them to fall out. And that's the last thing we want.
You're applying too much mascara.
Mascara is the most popular decorative product for eyelashes. It can add the necessary volume to them, lengthen them and make them thicker. Today, it is almost impossible to imagine a makeup bag without mascara. But do not forget that its substance has a strong effect on the structure of the eyelashes – both mechanical and chemical. As a result, they look more spectacular, but under a layer of cosmetics, the hairs can dry out, and their additional weight creates an unnecessary burden on the follicles. And this is one of the main reasons why they become weaker and thinner.
Setting aside one or two days a week without mascara is a great step for the beauty and health of your eyelashes. Especially since its absence can always be attributed to following the natural look trend – this way you won't lose your attractiveness and will have a much-needed day off from eye makeup.
