The creators of “Strange Wonders” have released a new atmospheric horror series called “Something Terrible Will Happen Soon”

Not even everyone has moved on from the finale of “Strange Wonders,” and the Duffer brothers have already released their new production project on Netflix. It's called “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,” and judging by what's currently being discussed in Western film criticism, the title is not clickbait at all, Ukr.Media reports.

I'm reading reviews from critics who were given promo copies to watch before the premiere, and it's just some perfect mix of wedding anxiety and paranormal horror.

Short description: Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco play brides and grooms whose plans for the perfect wedding are falling apart. Their wedding is only five days away. The young couple sets off on a journey to a country house hidden in a snowy forest. It is there that they dreamed of holding the perfect ceremony. But the bride is in a difficult situation. She has always been superstitious, and now a sense of doom haunts her. Even the smile of her lover does not dispel the clouds of anxiety. The aesthetics of pre-wedding hysteria, brought to the absolute.

But what do those who have already seen it say?

Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter writes that the Duffers and showrunner Hayley Zee Boston have done a great job of interpreting the theme of fear of marriage. The fear is not conveyed through mindless carnage, but through choppy editing, shaky camerawork, and—my favorite part—old love ballads (like Paul Anka) that sound as creepy as possible against the backdrop of all this chaos. It’s like you’re spying on someone’s relationship crisis that suddenly becomes supernatural.

And a Mashable reviewer even compared the series to diving into a murky pond. It's as if you're slowly drowning in this frozen, unsettling world, where even a frozen dessert stand looks like a branch of hell.

The AV Club critic praises the locations—a strange labyrinthine house that looks like a museum exhibit. But the most interesting thing is the chemistry between the main characters. The reviewer writes that they seem like a great company, but you immediately believe that they are not at all suitable for each other. I love this plot twist: a lot of alarm bells that are ignored for the sake of a beautiful ceremony, while literally hell begins around.

And now for the main minus that almost everyone is screaming about. EIGHT EPISODES. Nerdist writes that the middle frankly slides into melodrama, although the final bloodbath in the style of the “Red Wedding” supposedly compensates for everything.

But Judy Berman from Time has completely criticized the first half of the series. She expressed an absolutely brilliant opinion: in the third episode she felt more terrified by the fact that there are still five episodes ahead than by the events on the screen. She says that instead of a normal plot development, we are simply bombarded with standard scares, heavy breathing and sudden blood splashes.

In short, it looks like a very stylish, slightly drawn-out, but absolutely insane ride about how sometimes canceling a restaurant reservation is the best idea of your life. The series is now available on Netflix, so I'm off to see if I can survive these eight episodes of someone else's ruined holiday.

Are you ready to spend eight hours on this “horror attraction,” or is the prospect of a drawn-out melodrama scarier than the monsters?
