Statements Regarding ‘Shrek 5’
Although information is limited for Shrek 5, Eddie Murphy was the first cast member to discuss it publicly. In the aforementioned interview with Collider, the comedian revealed that he had completed recording the “first act” approximately four to five months prior. He also shared exciting news for enthusiasts of his character. “Donkey is going to get his own movie. We’re going to do Donkey as well,” he stated, though he indicated that voice recording for that project had not yet commenced.
Following the subtle nod to Shrek 5 in Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, co-director Joel Crawford commented on the hope that this easter egg would generate anticipation for future installments during an interview with SyFy. “Frankly, as we were developing the story, we included that with a sense of optimism. We have a great fondness for the Shrek universe, and we’re thrilled to continue Puss in Boots’ narrative. We held onto the hope that if audiences embraced the film and desired more from the Shrek world, leading to a demand for more, then we could return to Far Far Away. We’re not privy to any grand strategy. We were a bit like Perrito, maintaining a hopeful outlook!” he remarked.
