The revival of television series has become a prevalent trend in Hollywood these days. Viewers with a sense of nostalgia have a craving for the past, and Home Improvement has surfaced in conversations regarding a possible comeback series. However, according to Tim Allen, production has encountered a standstill due to certain cast members.

“They continue to discuss how it might progress, but they get stalled because there are currently some interpersonal conflicts among the boys,” Allen shared with Us Weekly in June 2026. He was referring to the actors who portrayed his on-screen sons: Zachery Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Taran Noah Smith.

The Toy Story 5 actor further elaborated, “They each have their own challenges. I’ve always envisioned it would be fantastic if it were a narrative centered on them. That appears somewhat complicated at this moment, to say the least.”

Consequently, will the Home Improvement revival feature a new ensemble? Here’s a compilation of what is presently known about the upcoming series.

Where Are the Original Home Improvement Stars Now?

Allen, who embodied Tim “The Tool Man” in the original program, is currently concentrating on promoting Toy Story 5, reprising his role as the beloved Buzz Lightyear. His co-star Patricia Richardson, who played Jill on the show, has secured consistent roles in film and television throughout the years, with her most recent appearances including Grey’s Anatomy, Shifting Gears, and A County Line: No Fear.

Regarding Bryan, he was taken into custody in November 2025 following an accusation of domestic violence. Prior to this, Bryan had faced arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, felony assault, and robbery.

In a podcast discussion in 2024, Richardson mentioned that Thomas was no longer “interested in acting.”

Has the New Home Improvement Show Been Cast Yet?

No. Despite Allen’s aspiration for a revival, progress on a Home Improvement reboot has not yet been made. Therefore, an official cast announcement remains unreleased.

What Did Tim Allen Say About the Home Improvement Reboot Cast?

As previously stated, Allen indicated that his co-stars from the original series are experiencing “personality issues,” likely referencing Bryan’s legal entanglements and Thomas and Smith’s lack of enthusiasm for returning to acting.

What Would the Home Improvement Reboot Show Be About?

Allen expressed his wish for a reboot to center on his character’s sons. He conveyed to Us Weekly in June 2026 that he “always felt it would be awesome if it was a narrative about” Brad, Randy, and Mark.
