Shia LaBeouf was once a prominent figure in the 2000s entertainment scene. Emerging as a child actor in *Holes* and later achieving recognition on Disney Channel’s *Even Stevens*, Shia went on to star in major motion pictures such as *Fury*, *Indiana Jones*, and the *Transformers* series. While his cinematic career yielded considerable box office success, it was also interspersed with public controversies and legal issues, including a notable lawsuit with FKA Twigs that was resolved out of court in 2025.
In more recent years, the former Disney Channel personality has maintained a lower professional profile, yet he has continued to be a subject of public attention. Following his formal acceptance into the Catholic Church on December 31, 2023, and discussions about potentially serving as a deacon, the actor has recently encountered fresh legal difficulties in early 2026 stemming from an alleged incident in New Orleans.
Discover what Shia has been occupied with below.
What Happened to Shia LaBeouf?
During the early 2000s, Shia successfully transitioned from films targeting teenagers to projects aimed at adult audiences, including *Transformers*, *Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps*, and *Eagle Eye*. Beyond his acting pursuits, he ventured into other creative avenues, such as developing graphic novels. He also came close to appearing in the Broadway production *Orphans*, though the production stated he was dismissed, while he asserted he withdrew due to “creative disagreements” with actor Alec Baldwin.
Throughout the 2010s, Shia’s romantic relationships frequently made news. In 2012, he began dating Mia Goth, and they eventually married in 2016. However, they separated two years later and subsequently divorced. It was later disclosed that, after a period of reconciliation, the couple permanently ended their relationship in 2025.
Between 2018 and 2019, Shia was involved with FKA Twigs, followed by Margaret Qualley from 2020 to 2021. FKA Twigs initiated a lawsuit against Shia, alleging sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress during their past relationship. While refuting these claims, the actor from *Nymphomaniac* issued a public apology, as reported by *Today*.
“I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations,” he stated. “For years, I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me. I have a history of causing harm to those closest to me. I am ashamed of this past and regret the hurt I have caused. There is truly nothing more I can say.”
The current status of the lawsuit since 2022 remains unspecified, yet he continued to participate in film and stage productions. Shia also reconnected with Mia, and they later welcomed a daughter named Isabel. However, in that same year, he again drew media attention for his public disagreement with Olivia Wilde, the director of *Don’t Worry Darling*.

Is Shia LaBeouf Still an Actor?
In recent times, LaBeouf has largely retreated from the Hollywood spotlight. He has opted for more focused, demanding projects—ranging from the boxing drama *Salvable* (2025) to writing and acting in the forthcoming World War II film *Angel of Death*—and was the subject of the 2025 documentary *Slauson Rec*, which documented his experimental theater collective.
Following the lawsuit filed by FKA Twigs, *Today* reported that Shia’s former agency, Creative Artists Agency, issued a statement regarding his acting career status in 2021.
“Shia made the decision to seek inpatient help and support, and as part of that, stepped away from the industry,” the agency, which had severed ties with Shia, stated.
In early 2024, news emerged that Shia had been confirmed into the Catholic Church and expressed an intention to become a deacon. The Capuchin Franciscans: Western America Province shared an announcement on their Facebook page regarding Shia’s confirmation.
“We are thrilled to announce that our dear friend Shia LaBeouf fully entered the church this past weekend through the sacrament of confirmation!” the post stated. “The Capuchin Franciscan friars are overjoyed to welcome him into the community and witness his profound dedication to his spiritual path. Shia LaBeouf, recognized for his exceptional talent and passion in the entertainment world, has embarked on a significant spiritual journey leading him to embrace the tenets of the Catholic Church. His decision to fully join the church exemplifies his genuine desire to deepen his connection with God and live according to Gospel principles.”
Shia has not publicly confirmed his aspirations to become a deacon. In 2025, he was featured in the films *Henry Johnson* and *Salvable*.
Where Is Shia LaBeouf Today?
Shia reappeared in the public sphere by attending Steel City Con in December 2025, engaging with fans about his career. However, merely two months later, the former Disney Channel star was apprehended on allegations of assaulting two individuals during a Mardi Gras disturbance, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
In February 2026, Shia was taken into custody on multiple battery charges following an alleged confrontation with several individuals at a bar. Consequently, he was instructed to post a $100,000 bond and was directed to undergo drug and alcohol rehabilitation along with weekly testing. A subsequent arrest warrant led him to surrender to authorities again by the end of February, facing an additional misdemeanor battery charge related to the same incident.
In a conversation with YouTuber Andrew Callaghan, Shia admitted that his conduct was inappropriate but expressed doubt about the efficacy of traditional rehabilitation for him, attributing his challenges instead to what he described as a “small man complex” and “anger and ego issues.” He also noted that he has not been sober for approximately nine months and has voiced reservations about re-entering rehab.
The subsequent month, Shia was observed in disturbing footage published by TMZ, seen shouting at a woman in Rome and vocally agitated in the street.
In June 2026, Shia entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor battery charges connected to his alleged altercation at a New Orleans bar earlier that year. As a result, he was sentenced to two years of probation, required to attend alcohol abuse rehabilitation, and complete sensitivity training and anger management courses.
