Ella is embracing the central part of Mary Bennet in The Other Bennet Sister, representing her first significant role following a consistent rise in British television.
Ahead of the Britbox show, she established a record of minor roles across well-known programs, like Call the Midwife, Bridgerton, The Last Kingdom, and All Creatures Great and Small. She has also been seen in productions such as Hotel Portofino and Extraordinary, plus film roles including Polite Society.
At the New York City red carpet debut of The Other Bennet Sister, Ella observed how “current and relatable” her character is to contemporary viewers.
“She’s sort of living in this world where she doesn’t quite grasp the societal norms or the rules of engagement,” Ella revealed to Hollywood Life. “And really the core of it is that the more in sync she is with her true self, as opposed to trying to alter herself to please others, the more people gravitate toward her and appreciate her.”
Dónal Finn – Tom Hayward
Dónal embodies Tom Hayward, a key presence in Mary’s development during season 1. Dónal found broader fame for his depiction of Mat Cauthon in Amazon’s series The Wheel of Time. His prior work includes theater performances and TV roles that highlight his traditional training.
Concerning The Other Bennet Sister, Dónal mentioned to Hollywood Life that there “is much to be gained” from the Britbox series and shared his main takeaway from the creation.
“I took away a great deal regarding dating rituals and their evolution, [and] the merits of their past form,” he stated.
Laurie Davidson – William Ryder
Laurie plays William Ryder, one of Mary’s potential love interests in the show. The actor is best recognized for his breakthrough portrayal of William Shakespeare in the TNT drama Will. Since then, he has been featured in movies like Cats (2019) and TV series such as The Great.
During his exclusive discussion with Hollywood Life at the U.S. premiere of the series, Laurie was questioned about what he would advise male viewers who might be unsure about watching the series, which has already connected with female audiences.
“Guys, step away from the gym, quit watching those harmful men on YouTube, and treat yourselves. Watch our series, read some Austen,” the actor suggested, before emphasizing the series’ concept of self-acceptance. “The most impactful romance in our series is between Mary and herself.”
