The classic Chanel pumps, as reinterpreted by Mathieu Blasi, were one of the most visible signals of a new shoe trend. The open-toed bow-tie shoes that Jonathan Anderson presented for Dior developed the same idea: fashion is once again turning to neat, understated and emphatically “correct” footwear. Added to this is the almost inexhaustible interest in anything that even remotely hints at ballet flats or Mary Janes. And here comes Anne Hathaway in shoes that go against this trend.

The actress is currently on a promotional tour for two films: “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” where she returns to the role of a well-read journalist, and “Mother Mary,” where she plays a pop star with a provocative image. During this period, Hathaway almost never parted with her black patent Versace Aevitas platform shoes – a massive pair with 17 cm heels and a 6 cm platform. The peak of their popularity fell on 2022, so now, against the backdrop of the return of a restrained “polite” aesthetic, they seem especially daring.

Hathaway wore them with a draped Coperni minidress at the New York premiere of Mother Mary. She wore them again the next day for an interview—including a double-breasted Sacai jacket dress. And she wore them again—this time with a 1991 Gianni Versace cocktail dress on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It's a notable gesture for a fashion industry that still has a certain suspicion about repeating the same clothes and accessories.

Anne Hathaway herself first wore the Versace Aevitas shoes for the cover of The Hollywood Reporter in March 2023. Although these shoes first appeared in Donatella Versace's fall-winter 2021/2022 collection. Then the designer presented them in the format of a video show with a labyrinthine wooden structure. Gigi, Bella, Mona, Precious and Vittoria took to the catwalk – in revealing mini-looks that revealed their legs and enhanced the effect of these massive shoes. Things from the collection quickly became favorites among pop stars, including Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter. It would be easy to say that Hathaway's shoes are already outdated, but there is something truly interesting in her choice.
