Are you ready for the return of push-up bras?

In short, Coachella this year showed one simple thing: fashion is once again putting the neckline in the spotlight. The top — be it a blouse, T-shirt, tank top or any other option — is no longer a mandatory attribute of the image. Its place is taken by a bra, and primarily with a push-up effect, which is not hidden under clothes, but on the contrary, is made the main accent. In particular, the combination of a bra as a self-sufficient thing and jeans has become one of the most noticeable fashion combos of the season.

At Coachella 2026, one of the main elements of the looks was the bra. These are the so-called going-out bras — also known as GOB — that is, bras that are worn not as underwear, but as a thing “for going out”. And these are not sports bras or laconic basic bras. These are accent bras that emphasize the chest and create an expressive neckline. That is why the push-up effect is important here. One of the most notable examples of this trend is the glossy Agent Provocateur bra in strawberry red, which Addison Rae wore under American Apparel skinny jeans. Kylie Jenner's vintage showgirl look and Olivia Rodrigo's bra, which combined romance and provocation, belong to the same series. In both cases, the looks were balanced by low-rise jeans: Kylie's were Levi's, Olivia Rodrigo's – Diesel. This trend was also evident in the spring-summer 2026 collections. One of the strongest examples was shown by Dario Vitale for Versace, presenting a bejeweled balconette bodice.

Despite their different embellishments, all of these bras have one thing in common: they deliberately accentuate the breasts. That’s what they’re all about. It’s been ten years since British Vogue famously declared that the era of cleavage was over. The story was widely discussed in the British press in 2016. The Telegraph wrote: “The era of cleavage is over,” while The Guardian noted that “the fashion for tightly gathered and lifted busts has all but disappeared.” But the problem seems to have been something else: who was considered fashionistas back then. If you think back to the industry a decade ago, there was almost no body diversity in it. And that’s an important point. Ten years is not that long of a time. But it’s only now that ideas about what the “right” cleavage should be, and whether it’s even appropriate, are really starting to change.

Of course, the bras that have become one of the main characters of Coachella are much more sophisticated than those that were popular a decade ago. Olivia Rodrigo's pink bra was handmade and originally included in a set created by London rock and roll atelier R&M Leathers. According to designer Ruby Mariani, it took two and a half days to make. “Making a bra is difficult, and it's even harder to make it give exactly the effect we want, which is a pronounced neckline,” says Mariani. “At the same time, the leather itself holds its shape so well that it naturally gives a push-up effect.”

Compared to 2016, one change is particularly noticeable today: sexuality is no longer seen as something demeaning. A 2016 Guardian article has a phrase that very accurately describes the state of affairs that women had to live with a decade ago: “Declension was simultaneously considered an obligatory part of the glamorous image and an obstacle to being taken seriously in a professional environment. It was a small but telling example of the double standards that women are constantly forced to deal with.”

Today, these words no longer sound like a statement, but as a signal of change. And these changes are already obvious. The neckline is back in fashion, but now it has a different status. It no longer looks like something frivolous or incompatible with a serious attitude.
