Once upon a time, waterproof jackets were associated only with people who were passionate about active recreation and spending time in nature. But with the spread of the gorpcore style, technical outerwear has become the new base of the urban wardrobe. This season, the red windbreaker has become especially popular.

Both luxury fashion houses and large mass-market brands have offered their own versions of this once purely practical outerwear. Just think of Uniqlo's windbreaker, created in collaboration with JW Anderson, COS's technical parka, which instantly sold out, and H&M Studio's laconic model with a funnel collar. They have all attracted attention over the past few months. But among all this variety of nylon jackets, it was red that became the main color of the spring-summer 2026 season.

Lacoste showed several red windbreakers on his runway, some resembling anoraks for fishing, others more sporty with contrasting zippers. All were paired with matching windbreakers to enhance the effect. Zomer offered a cropped version, teamed with a grey wool skirt and a tie tied in a preppy knot. Meanwhile, Meryl Rogge, for his eponymous label, styled a classic red windbreaker casually draped over a romper, as if it had been worn on a sunny day at the beach when the weather suddenly changed.

Fendi gave the windbreaker a luxurious interpretation: this model was reinterpreted in glossy leather. It may be less practical, but it is definitely very impressive. And Onitsuka Tiger presented a nautical-style version: a classic red raincoat was combined with a striped sailor-style T-shirt and high-waisted shorts with a drawstring.

The red windbreaker quickly became a staple in the mass market as soon as the spring/summer collections hit stores. Massimo Dutti, H&M, Uniqlo, and Arket all released their own versions of the outerwear piece, from minimalist matte options to voluminous technical silhouettes.

In a season that is usually dominated by beige trench coats and muted pastels, a red windbreaker is a practical, bright accent that is truly worth adding to your spring wardrobe. Wear it with denim and sneakers or use it to balance out romantic or classic pieces.
