HBO is showcasing its cinematic prowess with the upcoming television rendition of Harry Potter. As the celebrated Wizarding World makes its way to the TV screen, followers have discovered the performers slated to portray some of the mature figures at Hogwarts.
“We are thrilled to reveal the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse who will embody Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch,” expressed showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner and director and EP Mark Mylod in a declaration. “We’re excited to have such remarkable skill sets involved, and we look forward to witnessing their revitalization of these cherished characters.”
HBO has characterized the TV endeavor as a “devoted recreation” of J.K. Rowling‘s literary works. “Venturing into all aspects of the magical universe, each season will deliver Harry Potter and its remarkable escapades to both established and emerging audiences,” the summary states.
In May of 2025, the show officially identified its leads to enact Harry, Ron and Hermione: Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton. Two months later, principal photography commenced for the project.

John Lithgow – Albus Dumbledore
John has been spotted in a multitude of cinematic endeavors throughout his decades-spanning acting journey. Some of his well-known characters were featured in The World According to Garp, Terms of Endearment, Footloose, A Civil Action, Shrek, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Interstellar, Bombshell, Killers of the Flower Moon and, his most recent Oscar winner, Conclave.
Janet McTeer – Minerva McGonagall
Janet has cemented her reputation as a prosperous screen performer, having taken part in a spectrum of films. Some of her noted appearances were evident in Tumbleweeds, Carrington, As You Like It, The Divergent Series and The Menu. On television, Janet has been seen in Into the Storm, The White Queen and Ozark.
Paapa Essiedu – Severus Snape
Paapa is a respected thespian recognized for a variety of television roles, notably in series such as I May Destroy You, Ann Boleyn, Gangs of London, The Lazarus Project and Black Mirror: Demon 79.
The London native was a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Nick Frost – Rubeus Hagrid
Aside from acting, Nick is also a comic and wordsmith. The British actor is predominantly acclaimed for his portrayals in the pictures Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
Luke Thallon – Quirinus Quirrell
Parallel to Paapa, Luke also completed studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He held an uncredited cameo in The Favourite and has been in an assortment of stage productions, including The Room, Family Voices and Leopoldstadt.
Paul Whitehouse – Argus Filch
Paul is multi-talented, excelling as a performer, wit, scribe, and host. He’s distinguished for his roles in the motion pictures Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland and The Death of Stalin.
Arabella Stanton – Hermione Granger
Arabella had her significant advancement in the West End rendition of Matilda: The Musical, embodying the lead role.
Dominic McLaughlin – Harry Potter

Similarly to his fellow central co-stars, Dominic is a relative unknown, however, he attained a part in the forthcoming Sky humor piece Grow.
Alastair Stout – Ron Weasley
Alastair is personifying Ron, and this represents his initial foray into cinema. He, Dominic, and Arabella emerged victorious from a pool of 30,000 thespians who tried out.
Katherine Parkinson – Molly Weasley
Katherine is stepping into the shoes of the Weasley household’s leading lady, Molly. Previously, she made an appearance on The IT Crowd.
Lox Pratt – Draco Malfoy
Like many of his junior contemporaries, Lox is fairly new to the world of motion pictures. Before obtaining the part of Draco, he featured in Lord of the Flies.
Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy
Johnny is taking on the character of Lucius, and has formerly been seen in Lovesick, Stardust, Emma and One Life.
