“Dirty” gloss – why makeup from the Vivienne Westwood show will be the main trend of 2026

Vivienne Westwood's shows have always been more than just fashion shows – they are manifestos of freedom, and this time in Paris, the spirit of the late founder came to life in incredible looks created by makeup artist Daniel Sellstrom.

At Paris Fashion Week, Daniel Sellström presented a visual manifesto that officially declared the end of the clean girl era. His radical punk aesthetic transformed models’ faces into accent canvases where classic beauty canons dissolved into bold self-expression. It is this intellectual chaos that will become the foundation for the main beauty trend of 2026: replacing sterile perfection with raw energy, textured shine and makeup with character.

Architect of Chaos: Daniel Sellstrom

Selström is a master of “wrong” makeup. On his Instagram, he showed how makeup can be used to create the impression that models have just stepped out of a 1970s London club or stepped out of an old master painting that someone has boldly spray-painted.

Key beauty effects of the show:

  • “Glass” skin with flaws: Daniel used extreme gloss. The skin had an almost plastic look, but this effect was intentionally interrupted by “dirty” strokes of pigment, creating a contrast between luxury and street protest.
  • Graphic surrealism: Instead of classic arrows, there are chaotic black lines that mimic cracks or ink stains. Very dramatic and Westwood-style.
  • Lips as an art object: The contours of the lips were deliberately blurred or exaggerated. Daniel often uses a layering technique where the color seems to “eat” or spread. This adds a raw, primal energy to the image.
  • Theatrical makeup: Some looks harkened back to the historical past—bleached faces with bright, almost clownish blushes that emphasized the brand's ironic attitude toward high fashion.

Why is this fascinating?

Selström's work for Westwood is the antithesis of the modern clean girl trend. There is no room for perfection here. This is makeup that “breathes”, sweats and lives its own life. Daniel once again proved that beauty in the eyes of Vivienne Westwood is, first of all, the courage to be uncomfortable and noticeable.
