Britney Spears and Sam Asghari shared their romance publicly for quite a few years. Their initial encounter happened in 2016 during the production of Britney’s “Slumber Party” music video, which then quickly kindled a love affair eagerly watched by many fans. After about six years as a couple, they became engaged and later tied the knot in a fancy ceremony in June 2022.
However, their marriage was short-lived. In August of 2023, Sam initiated the divorce process after only a little over a year of marriage, and the separation became official in May of 2024. Britney and Sam initially connected in October of 2016 on the set for her music video for the song “Slumber Party” with Tinashe. Sam, who works as a model, actor, and fitness coach, played a role in the music video, directed by Colin Tilley and shot at a mansion in Beverly Hills. Later, Sam reflected on meeting Britney during a Men’s Health interview in July of 2018, stating that he was “excited that I get to meet one of the biggest artists of all time. I had butterflies.”
Britney and Sam Become Instagram Official

In January of 2017, three months post their first meeting, Britney and Sam confirmed their relationship on Instagram. The “Oops!…I Did It Again” singer posted a picture of her and Sam having dinner together on New Year’s Day. Britney accompanied the adorable picture with the caption, “Happy New Year.”

Britney and Sam were seen having a good time at the Los Angeles Lakers game on November 29, 2017, joined by the singer’s sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. Britney, who co-parents her kids with her former husband, Kevin Federline, was seated next to her sons and Sam at the game, and later was captured giving her partner a sweet kiss on the lips. This was the first time Britney was seen in public with both her children and Sam altogether, though it’s highly probable that Sean and Jayden had been introduced to Sam before that specific outing.

To celebrate being together with Sam for over a year, Britney posted a charming photo of the pair on Instagram in February 2018. The picture captured them in a pose, standing on some rocks with a beautiful waterfall as the backdrop. Britney added the caption, “I’ve been with this man for over a year… everyday he inspires me to be a better person and that makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world!! @samasghari.”
Britney & Sam’s Red Carpet Debut

On July 22, 2019, Britney and Sam made their initial debut together on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The sweethearts looked very fashionable and adorable at the A-list event: Britney was dressed in a glamorous red gown, while Sam was wearing a stylish beige suit, paired with a white dress shirt and a black tie.
Sam Supports Britney Amid Conservatorship
Even though Britney’s controversial conservatorship commenced back in 2008, it garnered significant attention following the release of the Framing Britney Spears documentary in February of 2021. Supporters of Britney — instrumental in starting the #FreeBritney movement — rallied in support of the singer and her battle to remove her father, Jamie Spears, as conservator of her estate. Sam also stood by Britney, by sharing an encouraging statement in support of his “better half” after the documentary came out. He told PEOPLE, “I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves.”
Sam further demonstrated his support for Brit when he wore a ‘Free Britney’ tee before her first conservatorship hearing in June of 2021. Britney undoubtedly felt the support from her boyfriend, and expressed her gratitude to him in an appreciation post she uploaded onto Instagram in August 2021. “Not only has this cute a****** been with me through the hardest years of my life but he happens to be an extremely good cook,” was written in the heartfelt message.

Britney & Sam Fuel Engagement Rumors
On September 2, 2021, speculation started brewing that Britney and Sam were getting engaged when Sam was seen at Cartier in Beverly Hills. Although it was unconfirmed if he made a purchase that day, the rumors continued after an image of a ring appeared on his Instagram account and then disappeared on Friday, September 10. The stunning ring had “Lioness” inscribed on it, which is what Sam calls his lady love. After the photo was removed, Sam stated he had been “hacked” and the image was “photoshopped.” He further said, “calm down everyone!”

Britney and Sam’s much-anticipated engagement finally occurred, and the delighted couple announced the exciting news on September 12. In an Instagram video, Britney showed off her round cut ring for the camera, seeming overjoyed while silently expressing her joy and smiling next to her soon-to-be husband. In the clip, Sam asks Brit, “Look at that, you like it?”, with the Louisiana native replying, “Yeah!”
Britney Reveals She’s Pregnant
Britney broke the news to the world on April 11, 2022, that she was going to have another child. Britney shared on Instagram, “I am having a baby … 4 days later I got a little more food pregnant…it’s growing !!!” She added, “If 2 are in there … I might just loose it … I obviously won’t be going out as much due to the paps getting their money shot of me like they unfortunately already have.”
Britney then went on to recall experiencing “perinatal depression” when she was carrying her sons. The Crossroads star wrote, “I have to say it is absolutely horrible ,” and added, “Women didn’t talk about it back then … some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret … This time I will be doing yoga every day !!!” Britney concluded her message by stating, “Spreading lots of joy and love 💕 !!!”
Sam later verified the pregnancy and voiced his excitement about entering fatherhood. On his Instagram, he posted “Marriage and kids are a natural part of a strong relationship filled with love and respect. Fatherhood is something i have always looked forward to and i don’t take lightly. It is the most important job i will ever do🙏.”
Britney Confirms Miscarriage
Britney and Sam shared that they experienced a pregnancy loss on May 14, 2022. In an Instagram post, Britney stated, “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy. This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however we were overly excited to share the good news.”

Reports surfaced on June 8, 2022, that the couple would be getting married very soon, just a day prior to the actual event. The private ceremony occurred on Thursday, June 9, with only about 60 people on the extremely exclusive guest list. Britney’s brother, Bryan, attended, however her mom, dad, and sister, Jamie Lynn, were not present. Some other associates of Britney were also in attendance; these included Paris Hilton and her mother Kathy, Drew Barrymore, and Donatella Versace (the designer of her wedding dress), who were all spotted heading into the location, along with her backup dancers from her residency in Las Vegas. It was also stated that Selena Gomez was included on the guest list.
Britney and Sam Split
In August of 2023, Britney and Sam’s relationship ended after having been married for slightly over a year. TMZ claimed that the couple had a major disagreement that involved accusations that the “Toxic” singer and her then-husband had been unfaithful, despite the fact that neither publicly confirmed the allegations. Sam filed for divorce soon after, on August 16, 2023, citing irreconcilable differences.
Before the news of the separation made headlines, Sam had been seen without his wedding band in March of 2023, which sparked early rumors of problems in the marriage.
Ultimately, the former couple came to a resolution in May of 2024, officially ending their marriage.
