Matthew assumes the identity of Lance Durand. Characterized by the streaming service as a “business powerhouse of substantial wealth,” Durand seeks protection from the FBI following a threat against his life, linking him to another mogul’s demise. Detective Alex Cross (Hodge) and FBI Agent Kayla Craig (Tal) collaborate in a joint effort to safeguard Durand and apprehend the perpetrator.
During an exclusive conversation with Hollywood Life, Matthew illuminated what attracted him toward the program and the characteristics of his role.

“Lance Durand felt straightforward [to embody], attributable initially to the script’s merit,” shared the Descendants actor. “The appeal for me [in joining the show and assuming the role] was a preliminary audition on camera. Not merely an audition; I engage in auditions frequently, but this was a camera test. … What really captivated me was the anticipation, tinged with apprehension, of venturing back into similar territory.”
Matthew emphasized the value of confronting challenges or fears head-on, particularly for those in artistic pursuits. Thus, I committed wholeheartedly to the effort.”
However, when initially presented with the camera test, Matthew confessed to having a limited awareness of the Cross storyline,” as he expressed to Hollywood Life. He elaborated, “the promotional material had not yet been distributed by the time season 2 production reached its conclusion. Consequently, I entered into a scenario with little familiarity with the written material and minimal insight into the character’s specifics.”
What Is the Premise of Cross?
The introductory season of Cross acquainted audiences with Alex Cross (Hodge), a distinguished detective specializing in homicides, alongside his expertise as a forensic psychologist and his role as a committed father. He shows a great interest in examining the mental processes of both perpetrators and victims, aiming to ensure justice is served by apprehending the offenders.
